This fascinating 16th-century medieval waterway supplied water to the mines of the Ore Mountains, and its course is lined with historic stone walls and aqueducts. While Highway No. 23 merely crosses the canal in several places, a special forest bike trail, No. 2001, runs directly alongside it. This trail has a paved gravel surface, runs completely flat alongside the babbling stream, and is ideal for both touring and mountain bikes; you can stop at any of the 23 informational signs and lean your bike against a tree.
