This unique 16th-century engineering monument was once used to float firewood down to Saxony, and its historic channel is lined by a narrow path that is difficult for bicycles to navigate due to tree roots. Cycle Route No. 23 therefore runs right next to the canal along a wide, paved forest gravel path, which is very comfortable for cyclists. At the points where the route crosses the canal, there are covered rest areas with large informational signs; here, you can simply hop off your bike, lean it against the wooden shelter, and take a look at the preserved stone canal bed in the surrounding terrain.
